MERCY HOME KIDS……
SOME OF OUR STORIES !!

Danesh is 11 yrs old. His parents live below the poverty line. One sister is a pupil in 3rd grade. Each day they go to other villages in search of work. No work--no food, that's how it goes...The problem was that Danesh could not be left alone, someone always had to be with him to assist him in everything; eating, toilet, bathing, dressing or moving about. His parents were not educated and live in a very remote village. When his mother was pregnant with him she was not under the care of a doctor (as with thousands like her). He was born with Polio and what little money they had, they spent on medical bills to try finding a way to make life easier for him. All this resulted in the reality that a cure could not be found for him and now they had nothing at all.  He was "found" on a visit to their village by Bro Louis, and his parents gave him over to the care of the Mercy Home where he now is receiving an education and as you can see, he has his own carriage by which he is pulled around the Mercy Home complex by the children that are able to do it ! His parents have had no interest whatsoever in him since his coming to the Home - BUT he is now one of the happiest children here and is becoming a great student!

Raji is now 14 years old and until four years ago was like any other average 10 year old.  Following a bout of very severe fever, which rendered him unconscious, he was left with loss of power in both legs. He was examined by several doctors, (in spite of his family's poor state of living), but to no avail.  Raji chose to try suicide as a way out of this sudden, terrible situation, which he found he could not cope with, but friends and family persuaded him otherwise.  Now, living at the Mercy Home he is a good student and one of the most helpful children here!  He will always try to assist the other children with anything they need a hand with and absolutely loves to look after birds and animals, despite his disability.  He now has our loving family at the Mercy Home to take care of him!

Sugenya is 13 and was knocked down by Typhoid when she was just 8 months old. At the time she had been left with her brothers who had no idea what to do with this sick child. Her parents were away from home looking for work. The illness left her
crippled.  As she grew, she became more and more depressed about her disability and received no encouragement until she came to live at the Mercy Home. She was encouraged to talk about her problems and counselled by her teachers. She is overcoming her depression and studying well. She is looking forward now to
getting a decent job when she leaves school and in fact ranks 3rd in her class!  She interacts well with the other children now and has made many friends !
